Are you looking after your health? You might think you’re doing everything you can to keep yourself fit as a fiddle, but there are a lot of mistakes that people make related to healthy living. For instance, you might think that you’re eating well because you’re eating healthy living ready made meals. It has ‘healthy’ on the box so you assume it must be good for you. But this is a massive misconception and don’t feel foolish for falling for it. That’s the whole point of these ready meals.

If healthy ready meals were good for you than you would lose weight very quickly. But you don’t, and instead, it can feel like you’re still on your old, unhealthy living plan. Well, that’s because you are. If you’re eating ready meals, you’re going to be consuming foods that are packed full of sugar and sweeteners. Even a diet spaghetti bolognese from a packet is filled with lots of junk that your body doesn’t need and doesn’t want. That’s why if you are trying to lose weight you should start by emptying the freezer out and getting rid of those ready meals that are supposed to be good for you.

If you want to lose weight, there’s only one way to do it. You need to make sure that you are eating good, wholesome food that you’re preparing yourself. You might even want to try making some fresh fruit and veg in your own backyard.

This is just one of the many mistakes people make related to health and fitness. Here are a few others.

 

Invisible Signs

What are the signs that something is wrong with your oral health? You might think that it’s a pain in your teeth or your gums. Perhaps it’s a cold or bruised sensation that you have when you’re eating particular foods. But actually, it’s entirely possible that there’s an issue with your teeth, and there are absolutely no signs at all.

Or at least, no sign that you yourself would recognize. For instance, one of the areas that dentists check in your mouth is your jawline. They do this to make sure that there are no signs of oral cancer. If there are, it is absolutely imperative that they are caught early to ensure a good treatment plan is put in place.

Of course, there are less severe oral issues where the signs might still not be recognized by the patient. For instance, your gums might bleed when you brush your teeth. Now, if this always happens when you brush, you might assume it’s normal. On the contrary, it could be the first sign of gum disease. In cases like this, you need to get an oral surgeon if damaged teeth need removed. Again, it’s crucial that this takes place as early as possible otherwise the issue can spread to the rest of the mouth.

It’s not just the teeth where the signs of an issue can be invisible to the untrained eye either. For instance, you may have been experiencing severe headaches lately. With a full description, only a professional doctor will be able to tell you whether these headaches are a cause for concern.

 

 

Get Fit Quick Schemes

There are plenty of ‘get fit quick’ schemes available to the naive and the insecure and you should really avoid them all because none of them work as advertised. A key example of this would be supplements. There are various different types of supplements that you can think about purchasing, and some are better than others. For instance, you may want put on muscle, and if that’s the case, you could think about taking a protein builder. Or, perhaps you just want to make sure you’re getting all your vitamins, so you’ll boost them with  C and D pills. Or, maybe you want to burn off some fat.

However, there are a few things that you need to understand about supplements. First, they don’t work by themselves, and this means that even if you are taking them, you will still need to change your diet and you will have to exercise more. For instance, if you want to build muscle, you’ll definitely need to think about eating more calories. To build muscle, depending on your metabolism you might have to double your calorie intake.

Another fact to consider is that supplements have commonly been shown to work through the placebo effect. This means that if you take them and they work it’s because subconsciously you are changing your behavior to make it happen. The pills themselves have very little to do with it.

And finally, if you do choose to use supplements remember, it’s the natural ones that work best. You should avoid using anything that contains any type of artificial material.

Supplements aren’t the only get fit quick scheme on the market, but they are by far one of the most misleading. Anyone who takes supplements thinking that changes are going to happen overnight are sure to be disappointed

 

We’re All The Same

One of the biggest misconceptions when trying stay healthy is that what works for one person will work for you. This is why it’s usually best to avoid those diet fads from celebs and the fitness videos. You see, whether or not a type of dieting or workout actually gives you results depends on your individual makeup. For instance, it’s possible that one person will work out forty minutes every two days for two weeks and lose a lot of weight. This could be due to the fact that they have a fast metabolism. If you have a slow metabolism, it could take a lot longer with far more exercise. So, we’re not all the same, we’re all different, and our bodies need different things. It’s not just about workouts and diets either. We can look at smoking as an example.

There are some people who can smoke a packet of cigarettes a day and see absolutely no sign of changes to their health. In fact, despite the constant warnings in the media, there are people who live a full life as a smoker and never develop lung cancer or any other serious health issue thought to be caused by nicotine. However, this doesn’t mean that smoking is safe because there are others who will smoke one every now and then and still develop an issue with their health. Again, it all depends on our unique traits and the way our bodies work.

 

Cutting Out Foods

There are countless diet plans that advise you cut certain foods and substances out of your diet. For instance, you may have heard that you shouldn’t eat gluten. Or, perhaps it’s red meat that shouldn’t be part of your diet. Maybe, it’s alcohol that you’ve decided shouldn’t be part of your lifestyle. The fact is that any food or substance will be dangerous or unhealthy if you eat excessive amounts of it. And a little of something that’s perceived as bad for you can actually be beneficial. Let’s look at gluten as an example.

Gluten-free dieting is nothing more than a fad. For some people, gluten is actually always going to be an essential part of your diet, and that’s true if you have a condition like celiac disease. For other people, cutting gluten out of their diet might simply leave them missing key minerals and vitamins. Many try to compensate by taking vitamin and mineral supplements, but we have already discussed the issue with this.

Or, how about salt? You might have noticed that salt has been removed or reduced from virtually every food that you can buy. Why? Well, because it’s healthier. But you do want to be careful that you don’t completely remove salt from your diet. Salt is actually good for your bones, your joints and even your teeth in small quantities.

 

Working Out Is Never Bad For You

Actually, it can be because if you work out too much, you can reverse the effects of exercise. Essentially, rather than burning fat, you’ll start to burn muscle. This will make your body weaker, and ultimately you won’t see any benefit from working out at all.

You can also damage your body from exercising too much. You might have heard the term no pain means no gain, but this isn’t actually true. In some cases, it’s best not to feel any pain after your workout and example of this would be running. When you run, you shouldn’t be in severe pain by the time you finish. Instead, you should make sure that you don’t push yourself too far. Intense running has been linked to the development of serious health conditions such as arthritis. If you want to avoid damaging your bones and joints, make sure you’re not running for excessive periods.

By avoiding these mistakes, you will be able to take better care of your health and avoid some of the more serious issues.
