Home Cooks: Create Your Dream Kitchen in 2018!
As a keen cook, you probably think about your dream kitchen often. If you’re stuck cooking, baking and entertaining and in a space that’s not really up to scratch, it can make what would be an enjoyable task a bit of a chore.
If 2018 is the year you invest into your home, the kitchen is a great place to start. Not only is it practical for you, but it will also add value to your property if you sell later down the line as well. In fact, kitchens can add so much value in many cases it’s actually worth remortgaging or taking out a personal bank loan to do the work. Here’s how you could go about it!
Change The Layout/ Extend
If you’re completely renovating, you will probably want to sit down with a kitchen designer and work out the best plan of action. Where the best place to put different appliances is, where you can make savings, where you can add extra features. They will help bring your vision to life, making sure the finished thing will work.
Decide on Units and Appliances
Choosing the units and appliances is one of the most fun parts of renovating the kitchen. If you’re changing your kitchen with the hope of adding value later on, remember that some styles will and age better than others. Go with something timeless instead of current trends, that way in a few years time it won’t look dated when home fashions move on (which they will). White is a safe option, solid wood also works well and can be painted later on for a cheap and effective renovation. Choosing integrated appliances will make the kitchen look more sleek and streamlined.
Choose Your Wall and Floor Tiles
As with the units, plain designs in neutral colours will stand the test of time when it comes to style. It doesn’t have to mean your kitchen will look bland and boring, you can bring colour and personality with decorative items and even with things like your kettle and toaster. That way the kitchen feels personal, but if you sell later on the style will appeal to everyone.
Splash Out on Fixtures and Fittings
Fixtures and fittings are really important when it comes to the kitchen. It’s here that you can take the room to the next level- things like a really nice tap, light fitting, luxurious cupboard handles and plug sockets might not seem like large things but it all adds up with style. Spend more here and you will give yourself a much more high-spec kitchen.
Once everything is done, finish the kitchen by painting the walls. A light colour will help to bounce the light around making it look bigger and brighter. Incorporate fun features like a statement clock, wall hangings, plants, flowers and brightly coloured tea towels to showcase your style. Just don’t go overboard, find the right balance between adding personality and clutter.
